About the resigned teacher

I'm a student. I don't attend classes very often due to work, but my recent lecture has left me thinking. It's more accurate to say that it wasn't the lectures themselves that made me reflect but rather the person conducting them. This individual is our lecturer, a middle-aged, overweight, balding man. The subject he teaches is of little interest to any of us, and it seems like he's not passionate about it either. He consistently arrives late to every lecture and simply reads from the presentation, nothing more. Of course, no one pays attention to him, and he's aware of it, but he takes no action to change the situation.

The educational system compels us to study subjects that are neither necessary nor interesting to us. The teacher is obligated to deliver this content, and I comprehend that. However, what I don't understand is why he persists in this manner. Why does he continue to read quietly, fully aware that no one is listening? He could easily be on his phone, leave us to our devices, and not waste his time (since the classes take place in the evening, and no one from the administration is present). It seems as though he has resigned himself to his fate and repeats the same routine day after day, showing no inclination to to change anything. The system killed the person within him.

He has become what I fear becoming.
